Show BATTLEFIELD RELICS ARE RECEIVED HERE Collection Will Be Placed on Exhibition for the Public at University Club. Some interesting souvenirs of the battlefields battle-fields of France were received yesterday by B. O. Howard of this city from Major W. B. Wallace, formerly with the national guard of Utah, but who is now aide de camp to the chief of staff of the United States army in France. The relics consist of a steel German helmet and a knapsack, which tiie major stales in a letter to Mr. Howard were taken from a captured German soldier alter the battle of Verdun. The helmet shows the effect of battle, but the knapsack, knap-sack, which is of cowhide, is in good stale of preservation. In compliance with a suggestion of Major Ma-jor Wallace, the relics will be turned over by Mr. Howard to the University club, where they will be placed on exhibition. Major Wallace mustered the Utah guard into the federal service when they were sent to the Mexican border and went with the troops to the border. Later he was transferred to duty in France and Is now "somewhere" on the battlefront.in that country. |
