Show MAY QUIT EARLY. The Democratic chairman of the house committee, headed by Speaker Clark, will make au effort to get through with all necessary legislation in order that congress may not be kept in session ses-sion during another summer. Republican Republi-can members are not sanguine and there is much doubt concerning the matter. The senate is to be considered before any definite plans can be made, and, as the senators are notoriously slow, the prospects for a summer recess are not particularly good. Adjournment Adjourn-ment probably will be brought about by the end of July or August, however, because one-third of the senators are to come up for re-election and they will not be content to remain in Washington Washing-ton on war business while votes may be slippiug away from them. The entire en-tire membership of the house is in the same fix, and this fact may have something some-thing to do with the activity of Speaker Speak-er Clark and the Democratic chairman. |
