Show MURRAY CITIZENS TO FIGHT HIGHER FARE j ! City Attorney Authorized ':n Ask Ee-! Ee-! ductton or Take Case to Courts. Special to The Tribune. MURRAY, Jan. 23. Citizens In a mass meeting here tonight went on record protesting pro-testing against the action of the public utilities commission in granting permission to the" Utah Light & Power company to increase the fare from 10 cents to 15 cents from the south of Murray to Salt Lake points. City Attorney D. W. Moffat explained to the meeting that such procedure was in direct violation of terms of the' street railway's franchise by which it had guaranteed guar-anteed that tiie price of 10 cents would prevail for a period of ten years. Mr. Moffat was authorized by the city commissioners to request the street car company to live up to the terms of its agreement as guaranteed in the franchise and in case of the company's refusal to do so, to take the matter to the courts. A committee of three, including John G. Sharp of Union, former Citv Commissioner George H. Watt and Bishop A. J. Wal-quist, Wal-quist, was named to assist the city commissioners com-missioners in their efforts to prevent an advance in rates and to organize opposition oppo-sition to the demand of the car company among patrons. |
