Show .WO J? a RESUMED IN HUNGARY AS WELL AS IN AUSTRIA AMSTERDAM, Jan. 23. The official correspondence bureau of Budapest announces an-nounces that Dr. Wekerle, the Hungarian : premier, ha.s received a deputation of ! workmen which handed him a memorandum memoran-dum containing a resolution stating that the workmen desired a speedy conclusion conclu-sion of peace based on the principles of no annexation, self-determination aa the right of peoples and the immediate discussion dis-cussion in- the Hungarian lower house of the franchise bill. The workmen further requested a fair and equal distribution of foodstuffs and other necessaries. Premier Wekerle, in reply, referred to Foreign Minister Czertiin's well-known statement on the peace negotiations and added that the Hungarian government was strongly supporting the peace policy. But, he said, incidents like the present strike seriously menaced the peace negotiations nego-tiations and if the workmen desired the accomplishment of peace these disturbances disturb-ances must be immediately stopped. Dr. "Wekerle emphasized that the government gov-ernment would stand or fall with the franchise fran-chise bill and would appeal to the people peo-ple if a majority for the bill was not obtained. He announced that the government govern-ment was resolved to take energetic measures mea-sures to master the difficult conditions caused by the war and that it expected the workmen to immediately resume work. The leader of the workmen's deputation deputa-tion noted the premier's reply and expressed ex-pressed the hope that work generally would be resumed. Dispatches from Budapest Buda-pest add that work was resumed everywhere every-where on Monday. |
