YV organizations or-ganizations which had their headquarters headquar-ters in Salt Lake were stored away for evidence by the federal authorities yesterday. yes-terday. It was necessary to use .hand trucks iu carting the heavy bundles of books and literature to safe places until tho government decides whether or not it will be used for evidence in any case which may be brought against the leaders of the organization. Leon Bone, special investigator for the department de-partment of justice, and YV. W. Ray, United States district attorney, are examining ex-amining copies of all literature which was taken from the headquarters and also are going through the different office records which the organization had. Whether witnesses are to be summoned sum-moned from Salt Lake to appear before the Chicago federal grand "jury has not as yet been decided upon. It is thought by the federal officials,, however, that witnesses will be brought to Chicago from all parts of the country to testify in regard to matters of which they have 'knowledge concerning the attempts at-tempts of the organization to interfere with the arrped forces of the United States. .' Eeports which have been received by the-federal officers from throughout the state indicate that the activity of the I. W. W. was confined to this city aud that all organiters worked out of the main offices here. No headquarters of anv kind were discovered in the mining towns near here, although the locals are said to have their meeting places in halls. In the mining districts it is said the I. W. W. activities were confined to individual exhortations, and had not reached the point where the leaders were able to establish headquarters for the purposes which they went into the mining districts. The selection of Frank B. Nebeker by the department of justice to take part in the prosecution of I. W. W. and other agitators was made upon the recommendation rec-ommendation of Senator W. H. King. |
