Action that may result in increased nost of milk to the consumer in this city was taken today j when the directors and dairy committeemen commit-teemen of the Weber county farm bu- reau, together with the dairymen of the county, adopted a resolution fixing a scale of prices from 15 to 25 cents a gallon which must hereafter be paid the producer. The retailers now charge 40 cents a gallon, and in the fa-e of the increase demanded by the dairy- t men from whom they buy it may be . necessary for them to increase their charge. their meeting today the dairymen nared that there is little or no iiionev in the milk business when they are compelled to seJl tiieir product at Y. and 15 cents a gallon. They also assort that the dairyman is entitled - to at. least one-half the price received! by the retailer and that this schedule j prevails in Walt Lake and other cities. Adjusting the milk price demands to j a butter-fat basis and holding butter 1 fat to be worth 60 cents a pound, to the producer in view of the price of : 10 cents a quart received by the retailer, re-tailer, the dairymen adopted the fol- ' ' lowing scale of prices, based on the butter-fat content: Three per cent, 15 cents a gallon; 3.2, 16 cents; 3.4, 17 cents; :i.b 18 cents; 3.8, .19 cents, 4, 20 cents; 4.2, 21 cents; 4.4, 22 cents; 4.6, 23 cents; 4.8, 24 cents, and 5, 25 cents. The average milk produced in this county is believed to test about 4 per y' cent butter fat, so that the average price sought by the dairymen is 20 cents a gallon. Included in the resolution resolu-tion is a statement that there is another an-other outlet for the milk produced in this county at a better price than fixed in the schedule, and that the dairymen will take advantage of this outlet if the retailers refuse to meet the demands. When the tests are made for determining the price to be paid the dairymen demand that a portion of the same taken be left with the . producer. The dairymen at their meeting today also took preliminardy steps for the organization of a cow testing associa- "v tion, in order that the unprofitable cows may be eliminated from their herds. The dairy committee of the farm bureau was authorized by the dairymen attending the meeting to present pre-sent their demands to the retail milk dealers in this city. |
