Show OPPOSITION CEASED WHEN WAR BEGAN Johnson of South Dakota Attacks Treasonable Propaganda. WASHfXGTON, Sept. 8. An attack on what he called the treasonable propaganda propa-ganda of the People's Council for Democracy De-mocracy and Terms of Peace was made in the house today by Representative Johnson of South Dakota, one of the members of congress who voted against the' declaration of war. He said it was about time that congressmen made it known to the people who are sending them this literature that congress is united and that the men who voted against the entry of the United States into the war are supporting the government gov-ernment in every possible way. "I received in the mail today some of this literature from a certain ' People Peo-ple 's Council' or some other body, and it is time some of us who opposed the entiv into the war should answer these treasonable attacks and not leave it up to you who favored the war to make the reply." Representative Johnson said: This combine of supposed citizens says the entente allies cannot secure se-cure a victory over Germany even with our aid, "that the only possible peace is by compromise. I mention such statements only to call to the attention of the gentlemen gen-tlemen who send out literature of that kind, if the density of their skulls will permit me to give them information, that that kind of propaganda prop-aganda will have no influence on the people of this country. The time for debate ceased, with the declaration of war. Before then we could and did disagree. Xow we are either for or against the United States. This congress, no matter how the individual members voted on the original declaration of war, is goins to support the government gov-ernment to the end and until . the United States is victorious. |
