These farmers are raising from 20 to 25 per cent more produce than any year previously, a great deal of which is either going to waste by rotting in the fields, being plowed under un-der for fertilizer or fed to the pigs," Karl Winter, local distributor for Vim trucks, said. "In the section southeast of the city k alone," Mr. Winter continued, "one producer pro-ducer reports that only 20 per cent of the food crop reaches the kitchen. Fresh vegetables direct to the retailer or the public market is the solution to lower prices. "Freight congestion is bad and the farmers are now making only one or two trips to town per week from the re- mote districts. Farmers are willing to " co-operate in getting their products to ihe consumer and claim they can cut z ' the present prices in half. W "Motor trucks are-the logical solution. A farmer who owns a truck sturdy enough for the most severe work, with sufficient speed flexibility to Insure agn Inst loss of time in transports iio.i. and mechanical efficiency to guarantee low cost of operation, is fortunately situated. sit-uated. "Bv the use of motor trucks farmers can haul to market while keeping their horses working in the fields. They can make several trips with a truck in a day to one with a team, or they can haul from three to six times as far. One truck can do the work of five horses this releases at least two drivers; and farm labor is very scarce and high priced just at present. It also releases twenty-five twenty-five acres of land for the production of human foods. "One farmer who hauls produce into Salt Lake City every day has kept careful care-ful record of his expense in operating a Vim truck, figuring in repairs, gasoline, oil and tires, and reports that his cost of operation is only 2 2S-100 cents per mile. This is indeed a remarkable result re-sult and challenges comparison. "The Vim truck will enable the farmer to market three to four times as much produce figure its value as an investment. invest-ment. - Its first cost is moderate, and the new plan of selling enables, the farmer to pay as he markets his products. i "The Vim motor truck stands for econ- j omy and efficiency. They are on the job : every working day of the year, because , they must be the Karl Winter service sees to that. Rain, mud, snow, distance the Vim overcomes the one as easily as the other. "At the present time there is quite a fleet of Vim trucks on the road. One by one the farmers are recognizing true wortii and are going about their business busi-ness with a Vim." Anyone with a transportation problem can find its answer by consulting Karl for the tremendous increase of acreage . . , i |
