Show MM BUT i IDE KG PAY Writer Relates Interesting: i Story of Development of j Properties. ! i HUMBUG IS THE START; Colorado, With Ore Acceptable Accept-able to Smelter, Is Still Paying Proposition. A scries of interesting letters on the making of mines ami millionaires in the Tintie district, litis hecn written recently by C. H. Blanehard ol- Salt Lake, president of the P. & B. Mines company. These letters have been published pub-lished in pamphlet form liy A. .1. Orem & Co. of Boston and Salt Lake. T'nder the caption, "One of Tintie 's Millionaires," Million-aires," Mr. Blanchard tells the following follow-ing interesting story ol" "Uncle" Jesse K night: Tries Tintie Mining. Jesse Knight, known throughout the mining west as " Uncle Jesse," was a small farmer years ago in one of the .Mormon settlements east of Tintie. As his prospects ! of wealth at farming were nil. he concluded to trv Tintie mining. J to located a claim ami named it the "Humbug." Harms limited means, he started a tunnel, as this would enable him to do" the work himself and obviate the necessity of employing help. He mined in the winter and farmed in the summer. sum-mer. On one occasion, as he tells it iiimself, he entered his tunnel, knelt down and told the Lord that if He would give him ore, he would always pay his tithing to the church. Persevering, he finally struck ore in large bodies and of high grade. The Humbug gave him his start. He displayed good judgment in making subsequent locations, as well as in the selection of men employed in the management of his mines. He spent many days in prospecting to the south of his first venture. None of the claims located by him at that period showed any ore outcrop. He, however, how-ever, accepted the conglomerate leads as proof of ore below, and proceeded to dig for it, and was rewarded for his pluck. The Colorado Mine. The most remarkable mine 'he located lo-cated and developed is the Colorado. Colo-rado. When he had sunk to a considerable depth, he struck silver-lead ore of very high grade. It was so easily mined it could be done without blasting, and was of such character as to be a very de- sirablc smelting product. The smelters not only treated his ore for nothing, but allowed htm $3 a ton premium on it. In less than five years after the mine ws located lo-cated it paid over $2,000,000 in dividends, and is producing today. He bought other prospects on his judgment, such as the Iron Blossom, Blos-som, Black Dragon and Dragon Consolidated from those who had not the faith and courage to develop de-velop them. These are all pouring out wealth, with the prospect of continuing to do so for years to come. Yes, Uncle Jesse has made millions mil-lions out of his mining ventures, and is reported to have paid as high as $75,000 as tithing to the church on an annual income of $750,000. While he has mined in Colorado, Nevada and Missouri, his heart is in Tintie, where he made his first raise. He is disposed to. close out his holdings iu foreign districts and confine his future work to the district of his first -love, the Tintie. |
