Show -UTAH H !W GI GAME 10 i e GROSS Teams Will Retain Only Enough of Receipts to Cover Expenses; New Fullback Promised. By FLOYD A. TIMMERMAN Tribune Staff Correspondent With the j Utah Boys at Camp Kearny. I SreoW to The Tribune. CAMP KEARNY, Cal., Dec. 2D. The ; lied d oes promises to add to its great cam many thousands of dollars when: the Utah football team and tho navy j jdayers tanle on New Year's day at the Kan Diego Rtadium to decide which - shall claim the title to the championship jrifsouthcrn California. It has been de- cided by .both teams that all proceeds, with the exception of $750 for each, shall be turned over to the San Diego Red Cross chapter. To somo persons it might seem as though even more could .be turned over by tho teams. However, those who understand un-derstand the expenses of a foothall team and the many necessary substitutes substi-tutes making up a squad, the war prices of their football togs, especially shoes, headgears which are still made of real leather stockings and jerseys which are included in the real wool class noseguards, which are made of rubber, and so on, will realize that the teams are keeping little enough of the receipts for their expenses and athletic funds. Why It Costs. Louie Falck, the whirlwind TJ -h quarterback, quar-terback, has made the manager ot the team dig down in his pocket for a small fortune in keeping the elusive speedster supplied with football clothing and shoes this season. It is said that the cost of a trousseau for a society bride would be small when compared with the expense of equipment for this player. According to the manager, every one of those sensational side-stepping runs of Falck 's costs real money. Falck has tho happy faculty of dodging dodg-ing Jmost every tackier who speeds for him while on one of those sensational runs. These hair-raising turns are responsible re-sponsible for many mined shoes and the ripping off of many cleats. Jerseys Jer-seys also suffer, as the tackier often just manages to get his hands on Falck 's sweater and to hang on with big fingers. fin-gers. Falck 's swiftness of foot then causes part of the -jersey to remain in the hands of the tackier, while Falck speeds on toward the goal. In the re- Vccnt Utah-Navy game the quarterback mined so many shoes that the supply gave out and he was compelled to con--nue the play with cleatless ones. This was proba.bly responsible for his slow-ncss slow-ncss of movemrnt and niaDy slides, which kept Utah from scoring a touch- down and making many persons believe that Falck had gone stale. Sea Dogs Determined. The navy boys, according to recent information from their camp, arcout to wipe up the Utah players from whistle whis-tle to whistle. The sea players have been put through the practice games lour hours each day and have been on llie training table since their last game. They have two coaches working inces-:-Hntlv to dope out now plays to spring on t lie Utah men. From information, they have notbiDg new to spring in the shape of players, and will send in the same lineup which gave Utah their only hard fight this season. In direct contrast to the navy players, play-ers, who have plenty of time for football, foot-ball, the Utah players are working their eight hours each day in artillery training train-ing and then working four more with the pigskin. Their messkit is their training menu, filled with tho good old army rations. One look at tho lineup and the lines of determination on the faces of the men, will convince anyone they are out. to win. Also in contract with the navy information, infor-mation, the Utah coach pronifses to spring a new fullback who will make the navy resistance work hard to keep pace. Who he is, of course, is a mystery, mys-tery, but from the coach's information, he can be fully counted upon to show , real class. Plan Novel Stunts. Stunts will bo a feature of the Xcw Year's came. i Douglas I'ltirbHiik, must athletic of VvVn0lls n,,n'''- stars, himself a boxer, wrestler and accomplished in other lines of sport, has a lare silver cop, which lie is :oin to present to tho Utah team for wmniut-, the divisional champiouship Th:inltsi.'i in day.
