Taylor and Wagoner Wayne L'ur-bis; L'ur-bis; Fiauk Unlvoy, F battery, to bo sergeant ; Ucorgc Harris and Clinton Foulson, to he corporals. , V Tho Vtah artillery underwent a rigid inspection this morning before officers of ! ho regular army who have been detailed de-tailed from Washington to inspect tho Fortieth division, 'lite inspection was made in brigade format ton and at thn same time the I'tah boys -were inspected the remaining organizations of. tho brigade wore put through the tet;t. Promptly at S o 'clock the brigade formed and inarched out to the inspection inspec-tion grounds, nearlv a mile from camp and near the artillery target Tango. Here tho soldiers were carefully inspected in-spected in regard to personnel ami equipment. No information was given out by the officers as to the result of their findings. With the inspection over little work was on the programme for tho artillory-.menantl artillory-.menantl they immediately began preparations prep-arations for "their New Year's holidays which opened today at noon and wilt close Wednesday morning at 7 o'clock. Leave for Holidays. Many of the men left for San Diego, where their relatives and friends are awaiting them. Others left for Los Angeles and ocean resorts in this vicinity. vi-cinity. Preparations are being made for a bounteous dinner at the camp New Year's day, although there are apparently few of the artillerymen who will remain to enjoy it. No word has yet boon received by officers of the regiment which clears up the mysterious disappearance of Captain R. F. King, the regimental football foot-ball coach, vrho failed to report after the Christmas holidays. The football team is going ahead with training for the big New Year's game with the navy and are now. being instructed by Lieutenant M. L. Young, athletic officer, of-ficer, and Lyman Jndd, the team cap tain. The military police, who are now making efforts to locate the missing captain, have as yet nothing to report. j Enlarge Headquarters. V'l Sergeant Andrew W. Gorey is now in charge of the clerical force at regimental regimen-tal headquarters, which has been greatly great-ly enlarged with the reorganization of the regiment. Corporal Raymond Van Dam and Corporal Paul B. Talraage, who also reported for tho divisional efficiency effi-ciency board, have been detailed for work at headquarters. Private E. L. Sanders, an expert penman from headquarters head-quarters company, has been detailed to engross the many certificates which are now awarded to all non-eommisioned officers. of-ficers. Dut to a slight illness Captain Curtis Y. Clawson, who recently was promoted to become regimental adjutant, has yet been unable to assume his duties. Mayor Alex R. Thomas is still in charge of the regimental work. Coming to Utah. Cook Clarence L. Hennefer of T battery bat-tery will leave tomorrow for Fort Douglas, Doug-las, where ho will report for duty to Lieutenant Theo Peterson, who has charge of the regimental mounts there. Hennefer will relieve Cook Earl Harr, who- will report to the regiment for duty. Private Walter Emery of E battery, ' and Private Melvin Emery of E battery, bat-tery, brothers, left for Utah this morning morn-ing due to the death of their father. Their cousin, Henry Emery of E battery, bat-tery, left with them. headquarters company today announced an-nounced the promotion of several men to become privates of the first class with an increase in pay and opportunity oppor-tunity to become non-commissioned officers of-ficers with the next selection. Thev were Privates Leo Seamans, William Jvt. dement, Lawrence Clark, Frank O. Witbek, Lenox A. Pratt. Reid Gardner and Melvin C. Morris. Private Roy T. jt Cottrell of E battery today received his discharge from thp service due to physical disabilities. He left this afternoon aft-ernoon for Salt Lake. Private Preston Heninger has been returned to the regi- 4 ment for duty after a period of illness in the camp base hospital. One'of the third series of officers' Training camps will open at Camp Kearny January n with Captain Walter Philoon in charge. "Pat" King. Recovering. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel A. King of Salt Lake today visited their son,' Creightou fPat) King, who is now at the "camp base hospital. They reported him on the way to speedy recovery from pneumonia pneu-monia and indications point toward his discharge from the hospital by Neve Year's day.
