The programme, given for the general club by the music mu-sic section, was the first of several evening even-ing meetings planned for the club for this year, and its success predicted that ; the innovation is one that will be wel- j corned. I The banks of autumn leaves and fire i bushes and yellow corn in splendid In-, 'dian potteries and baskets made a gorgeous gor-geous setting for the picture, with its I real pines, jts tepee of skins and furs, j its logs and van -colored blankets and: groups of buckskin-clad reds. A group of Indians, composed of cue chief, V. j H. Manning, many squaws, members of the club chorus, and oue papoose, little lit-tle Nancy Garnett , remained upon the stage throughout the music and dancing, danc-ing, giving an appropriate setting. Mrs. W. J. Barrctte gave an illuminating illumi-nating paper on 1 n dian music, interpreting inter-preting the music of the Wa Wan cere-monv, cere-monv, given so beautifully on the piano by Miss Kowena Korns; the weird songs of Lieuerance were sung in Miss Leola Schrack 's lovely voice; two original orig-inal dances bv M iss Kathryn Gabbott and Miss Lisle Bradford: the Indian love songs of d'Jadman by Mr. Manning, and two numbers well sung by the club chorus comprised an attractive programme. pro-gramme. Much of the beauty of the music was due to the perfect accompaniments accom-paniments of Miss Rowena Korns, Miss Kdna Edwards, Miss Lisle Bradford and Mrs. Skelton. Mrs. Howard Lawson, as chairman of the music section, was chairman of the committee on arrangements. arrange-ments. j The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers will hold the first meeting of the season sea-son Monday at 3 o'clock in the afternoon after-noon on the fourth floor of the Bishop's building. The meeting is to be in honor hon-or of the chaplain, Mrs. Sarah J. Cannon, Can-non, and will be under the direction of Mrs. Minnie Home James, second vice president. The programme will consist of a tribute trib-ute and life sketch of Mrs. Cannon by her oldest granddaughter, Mrs. Dorothy Cannon Hyde, a piano solo by Miss Florence Flor-ence Bennion, a series of old songs by Mrs. Nellie Druce Pugsley. An invitation is extended to all members mem-bers of the society and all interested. Refreshments will be served. Banner review No. 11, Maccabees, will hold public installation of officers at K. of P. hall Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. Mrs. Etta Rcwe, past commander, com-mander, will be installing officer, Mrs. Ellen Barnhart assisting as ladv of ceremonies. The installation will be followed fol-lowed by a short programme, after which the evening will be spent in dancing. danc-ing. The dramatic section of the Ladies' Literary club will meet Monday afternoon after-noon at 2:30 o'clock at the clubhouse. The topic for discussion will be "Comparative "Com-parative Methods of Studying the Drama" by Professor Roland Lewis. All interested are invited to attend the meeting. The regular meeting of the Ladies' auxiliary of the Third Presbvterian church will be held in the church parlors par-lors Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Bay View Reading club will hold its first meeting of the club season sea-son Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. T. D. Lewis, 60 Eighth East j , street. The Welfare club will hold its first meeting of the year in the apartment of Mrs. B. B. Hamey in the Wilson hotel ho-tel Tuesday evening. The programme will consist of musical numbers and current cur-rent events. , The Rowena circle of Yeomen held a well-attended card party last Thursday. Thurs-day. Madame Paderewski is engaged in selling Polish refugee dolls for the benefit of Polish war sufferers. The dolls are made by Polish painters and ! sculptors who are war victims, and are being dressed in the holiday attire of j the different provinces of Poland. |
