Show HOW 10 PRESERVE BEAUTY OF W Utah Auto Painting Company Com-pany Gives Easily Understood Under-stood Rules for Autoists. Following are a few simple rules, given by the Utah Auto Painting company com-pany (Robert.. Bell and Harry Brisbee), 250-2.54 Edison street, for owners and chauffeurs of motor cars for preserving the beauty and finish: Never let soap come in contact with the car. A soap solution should be used. The rule used to be ''Don't use soaprt or "Be sure to use a neutral soap." This is not feasible, however, as the grime, the grease ami the road oil collected collect-ed by the. chassis of (he car demand Ihe caustic action of soap for their I complete removal. A truly neutral soap is necessarily without the caustic action which is absolutely I necessary for the cleaning purposes !, on the chassis only, but should not come iu direct, contact with the i fiuish. Your soap solution should i contain a pound or two of soap to a gallon of water. Heat the water i until the soap is completely nlis-i nlis-i solved. Enough of the solution can tie made up to last a week or two. I Cleanse the car thoroughly with a flowing stream from a hnse until all the grit possible has been re-I re-I moved. Add a quart of the strong soap solution to a pail of water. With a soft, clean sponge, filled with the soapy water, carefully wash off the grease or oil. Then rinse thoroughly with clear water and (Try with a clean chamois. Remember Re-member that these directions arc I for the hood, fenders and under ! parts of the car. The body of the car should be washed carefully in the same man- ner as the chassis, but with clear water only. Extreme care should be taken that the sponge used contains con-tains no sand or grit, as this is one of the worst factors in destroviuc the luster of the finish. " Provide thorough ventilation in the garage. Fresh, pure air and I plenty of light, avoiding direct siin-light, siin-light, will lengthen the lifo and lus-I lus-I ter of the varnish coat. In a dark garage varnishes have a tendency I to take on a greenish cast, j When the luster and strength of i the varnish are gone the car should I go to the paint shop. Do not de-i de-i lay this too long. It you send your car to the paint shop in time a coat of finishing varnish will be suffi-j suffi-j cieut and the undercoats need not j be taken off. With this treatment ! it should not be necessary to re- move the finish down to the wood j . or metal oftener than once everv i two or three years. If your car has a metal body he on the lookout all the time for rust, the arch-enemy j of tho steel surface. Call on us as j soon as the varnish is knocked off ' anv spot. I Renovators and cleaners are of little value and in most cases are harmful to any finish and should be avoided. |
