Show COOLING BATTERY IS BEING INSTALLED Goodyear Tire & Rubber 'Company Are Pioneers in Adoption of the Latest Methods. : To provide for the constant (low of i electric power and at the same lime conserve con-serve the water supply which rotates the ! great 1 o.oon k. v. A. turbine at the plant 1 of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber company, : Akron, O.. the company is ere- ting a battery of live cooling towers, Wie first 1 to be Installed by any of the large rubber rub-ber companies of the country. The cooling battery is being installed in five sections, each equipped with a twelve-foot rotary fan. These create a : cucrent of cold air through which the j overheated water coming from the tur- bine may splash and re-enter the tur-I tur-I bine at tlie proper temperature. In this I manner 12,300 gallons of water may be 1 cooled each minute and used over again Indefinitely. Tt is estimated that in a year the water wastage will amount to less than 5 per cent. This wijl effect a wonderful saving in GooJyoar's water consumption, and 1011-serve 1011-serve the supply for other uses, for after the cooling system is once tilled with the required amount of water, no more need ho added except to replenish the small quantity escapinpr hy evaporation. In Europe cooling' systems of this type have heen in use for some years, hut their use in the Tniterl Slates Is comparatively com-paratively recent, thus Goodyear becomes one of the pioneers in the utilization of this method of water conservation. Much of the success of the Goodyear company in building and selling tires has been derived throuprn this same effort ef-fort at conservation, that the savings effected ef-fected micrht be put back in the tires and passed on to the motorist. |
