Show THE DIARY OF A SIREN CLARA'S WITCHING WAY i SEPT. 19. DTCK and I are going flat hunting hunt-ing tomorrow and I am so excited. ex-cited. I wonder if every girl feels . the same thrills over picking out their own home. Of course we will have to get an inexpensive apartment apart-ment as Dick Js present salary is only $75 per month, but he expects an increase the first of tho year. I know he will want to rent an apartment that is beyond our means as lie wants me to have everything the best, but T will in- ' sist on him taking an inexpensive one as it would not be fair to put too much burden on him when we arc just starting , out. And besides I will be so happy with him that it will make little " difference if we live in a palace or a hovel. He has just phoned me. The dear boy only wanted to know what kind of flowers I liked so he could bring me some when he comes out tonight. ' 'Dick, ' ' I said, ' 'you mustn 't be so extravagant. I will be just "i "Tjji "W-tl, Dirk, ff yri insts;." I taM. '! would rather havi? orchids than anw other flower." as glad to see you if you bring yonrsel f and no flowers. ' ' ' ' But how about a few carnations?'' carna-tions?'' he inquired. "Well, Dick, if you insist." T srud, "I would rather have orchids than any other flower. But please ffm$tm- .. .. . uw- . .....J "So wo looked at 6evei-.il morP." don't be '-extravagant and get too many. ' ' hope the dear foolish boy doesn't bring any at ail and not more than a dozen at most. We must learn to economize, he and I. SEPT. 2J. DfCK and I have picked out our apartment and it is too sweet for anything. It is four roms and a front porch at Prairie Ave. and fiOth. Street, first floor, and we are getting it at $10 per month, which is a real bargain. The real estate man paid he would hold it for Us until the first of iMtvcmhor if we would sign a year's lease. And now it Innks like we would be married tho last week in October, though I will be rushed to death to got readv in time. T wih T could afford to giveup my position in Mr. Wepch-man Wepch-man 's office, but I can make good u?e of the money f make there' and stay until a week, or two before the wedding. Dick came nut yr-siordav forenoon fore-noon with sr era 1 el: ppinj? fmm (Continued on Following Page.) DIM OF 1 SB; (M'SSlETWg (Continued from Preceding Page.) tho papers with different flats that were for rent. ' ' We must look at the ones we think wtll be least expensive, ' ' said he. SO HE picked out one that he thought would be just right for us. It was four rooms over on Wabash Wa-bash near 57th. St. They wanted $20 per month for it, but when I had looked at it I saw it was not worth the money. "H is a good thing I am with you," I told Dick. "I believe I am more practical than you and you will have to let me be the business manager." So we looked at several more on Wabash and Indiana ami I believe dear foolish Dick would have taken anything they showed us, but I would not allow him to be imposed im-posed on. The apartment we finally final-ly chose was not on his list, but we saw the for rent sign in the window win-dow as we passed by. On Dick's salary, that will leave us $35 per. month for living expenses ex-penses and clothes after the rent is paid and we should be able to get along on that easily and put some by for a rainy day, especially after Diek gets his increase. Next week we are going to look at furniture and we can get some bargains if we take plenty of time and look around carefully. As long as we can get a good player piano and nice living room and dining room suits I do not care so much about the rest of it. |
