Show - -STATE SECRETARY IS CLEARING ACCOUNTS Determined to place the finances of the office of the secretary of state upon "the highest possible plane before leaving leav-ing office, JDavid Mattson, secretary of state, yesterday announced that commencing com-mencing October 1 no fees would be accepted ac-cepted in his office other than in cash or its equivalent, such as a certified . ."cashier's check or a postal money order. With the large amount of money being be-ing handled continually through this office, the deputies and clerks are frequently fre-quently embarrassed by doing some offi- rial service for which fee return has to "be made to the state, only to find that the check they have taken in good faith is returned ou account of funds lacking. Hereafter the system of cash or its ' , v univalent, which obtains in the laud board and other departments, will alone obtain. |
