Show DATE FOR TRACK MEET TO BE SET THURSDAY Meeting of Intor-Collegiato Represen-tativesCalled Represen-tativesCalled Contest Will Be Held Lato in May. Representatives of the four leading schools of the State, tho U. of U.. L.1 D. S., B. Y. A. and the B, Y. U. will meet on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock In this city to arrange for the annual Interstate track and field meet. The meeting will be held at the L. D. S. university, and will be attended only by such persons as are qualified to represent rep-resent the above-named Institutions. Manager Riser of the university track team received a letter yesterday from the management of the Brlgham Young university at Provo asking that a meeting be held some time during conference week, go Riser authorized the calling of the meeting on Tuesdaj' at 4 p. m. It Is hardly probable that the Interstate Inter-state meet will be held before the last week In May or the early part of June. The weather has Been so Inclement of late that It has been Impossible for the athletes to train out of doors, and they cannot get Into shape before that time. Another reason advanced for postponing post-poning the meet Is the fact that thero will be baseball games here until about May 15th, and If the contest was held before that time It would conflict with the baseball dates. Indications are that the coming meet will be the best ever held In the State. Each of the four contesting schools has a large number of men working out In the gymnasiums, und -the outlook is bright for some good records when the teams meet this spring. Reports from the B. Y. C. at Logan say that the Cache volley Institution has almost 100 men who will try out for poirftlons on the track team. Many of them aro new men, but with the material ma-terial at hand tho Aggies ought to give the other Institutions a run for the honors. Little Is known concerning the work going on down at Provo, but the Utah county lads have always given a good account of themselves In tho pa3t, and they will probably not disappoint their admirers this year. The Pnvo team carried away the State championship last year, and they will no doubt make ,n t'trong bid for the honors again. Up at the unlverulty the boys are working like Trojans, and none of them will admit the possibility of a defeat de-feat In the intcr-stntc contest. Tho 'Varsity has four of the speediest dash men In the State In Moore, Whitney. Ridcout and Riser, and tho other speeditera will have lo go some lo beat these fellows to tho tape. Russell can be depended upon to give the pole vaulters a brisk workout, and with the redoubtable "JImmIc" Wade In the distance, dis-tance, the students on the east bench can rest assured that they will bo well taken care of. |
