Show I .USING MOFFAT'S NAME DOWN IN MEXICO jj "Who is using the name of David H. II Moffat to secure a great railway con- jj cession from the Mexican Govern-, II ment?" I This is what Mr. Moffat himself has M to say upon the subject: "I have noth- ing to do with any road in Mexico, elth- I cr now in operation or projoctcd. I am asking for nothing from the Mexican Government. I have no interest of any J sort in Mexico and I have no intention IJ of becoming interested there. I want II this denial made plain, for during my hj trip in the East I was forced to deny J this story, which emanated from the I City of Mexico, in New York. Philadel- phla, St. Louis and Chicago. If my lj name is being used there, as I under- stand it Is, it Is with intent to defraud, Tho story was first printed in the j Mexican Herald, published In the City of Mexico, as a plain statement of fact, From there It was sent over the United J States, and has since caused Mr. Mot fat much trouble. Financial papers In the East published It as an assured fact and the report was received with ore-dence ore-dence in the highest ofilclal railway circles cir-cles In Denver. It was to the effect that Mr. Moffat was the head of a syndicate syn-dicate getting a concession from the I Mexican Government to build a road from Agua Prleta, on the northern borders bor-ders of the State of Sonora, to Guadalajara Guada-lajara in the south. A denial of Mr. Moffat's connection with this has been made to the Mexican Mexi-can Government They guard their railway franchises with more care than any other Government in the world. An investigation will be made and tho promoters who have been using Mr. Moffat's name in this manner will find themselves in serious hot water. The report that Mr. Moffat is interested inter-ested in the "Western Pacific is also denied. de-nied. "I have nothing whatever to do with that road," said he; "I have heard the reports connecting mo with It, but they have no foundation in fact. My connection . ends at Salt Lake City, where the Denver Northwestern and Pacific will end." |
