Show SOME GOLD MB IN IDAHO'S INTERIOR Insldo Information as to What Fortune For-tune Hunters Are Doing- in the Gem State. ( Special to Tho Tribune. SOLDIER, Ida.. April 1. Tho South Boise and 13Ig Smoky sccUon of Rosotta mining district bus long been known ns a rich placer region but owing to Its Inaccessibility In-accessibility by team It has been difficult to get men of capital Into It. Whllo It Ik well known and extensively advertised that the Wood River region Is rich In precious metals, very llltlo Is known of tho region to which'! wish to call your attention. I will now give you tho names of a few companies who are or soon will bo operating ope-rating In tho South Bolso and Big Smoky vulleys and mountain spurs. ' South Boise. First I will mention tho South Bolso Mining and Development company, II. B. Dohl, president: C W. Pursell, vice-president; II. D. Pursell, secretary (all of "WaBhlncton, O., and all successful business bus-iness men): Albert Ford Is their superintendent super-intendent and general manager. They bought part of tholr present holdings from John McOarvy three years ago, since then thoy havo worked along very ouletly, prospecting their ground, and they havo locatea considerable moro ground. Thla lu a stock company but nono of their slock has ever been on the market mar-ket and 1 am credibly Informed that It never will be. Thoy pnld 51050 to havo a steam drill carried In In tho summer of They sunk io bedrock In various places and found good proepeota all along tho river for a distance of several miles. To moro thoroughly prove their property, thoy worked a small force of men all Uio winter of 1901-2, running a bedrock tunnel tun-nel on a high bnr nnd prospecting tho ground nil tho way. Ford himself camped right there and panned Uio ground, with tho result that In April they put on a force of men and worked steadily until November, building a ditch several miles In length and six feet wide In tho bottom to carry water to run hydraulio machinery machin-ery for working tho ground. Ross Fork Mine. Another company, organized at about the samo time, is known as tho Amalgamated Amalga-mated Gold Drodglng company, and thoy, at great flxpenso, brought In a oteam drill aud spent soveral momlis sinking In various vari-ous places along, the river above the S. 13. M. and D. Co.'s ground. H. L, Chjldo Is the local representative of this company, com-pany, bolng superintendent and general manager. His postofllco address la Soldier, Sol-dier, as Is also Albert I'ord'n. Last foil Ford bought out a clnlm about ilfteon miles above the McGarvcy diggings at tho month of Ross Fork and soon after organized or-ganized what Is known ns the Ross Fork Hydraulic Mining company, with Wesloy Pltzor of Virginia as president. I- don't know tho other officers, but they pro? pose to work their claims with hydraulic elevators and will also put In a sawmill this spring. Golden Rule Group. Still another company was organized last fall. J. B. Gleskc and Frank Hous-man Hous-man of this place, with others, had located lo-cated what they call tho Golden Rulo group of quartz claims up near tho headwaters head-waters of Big Smoky. They also had a group of claims some ten or twclvo miles lower down tho stream. Thoy put In tho summor with Interested parties prospect- , lng tho properties and forming a company to develop them. And It Is gatlfying to I know that after tho most carorul and systematic exporting capital was finally 1 secured and a J1.OOJ.000 company organized. organ-ized. This company is known as tho Idaho Consolidated Mining and Development company (limited), with J. B. Glesko as president, William Waggoner secretary and Frank Houseman treasurer. I understand un-derstand that Gov. Wells of Utah and other prominent Salt Lakers aro Interested Interest-ed In this company. Much Is expected from those claims when tho company gets them going, for they show some fine silver, sil-ver, lead and gold values. Big1 Smoky Group. Several miles below tho Golden Rule group on Big Smoky, I havo a group of quartz claims which I located two years ago. It comprises tho Acme, Eagle, Elk and Minnie Gray claims, and I am working work-ing them as a group, doing all tho development de-velopment work on tho Acme. Last summer 1 ran a tunnel over seventy-six feet, calculating to tap tho ledgo about seventy feet below tho surface. There Is a general tendency now to open up this region. Tho Five Points mlno is twelve miles north of Soldjcr. Wo built a good wagon rood to it in October, 1&02. Last fall Hallcy business mon joined forces with Soldier and started to contlnuo this road from tho Flvo Points on down Llttlti Smoky, across Big Smoky, over a low rldgo onto and up South Bolso to Eear oreok; thenco up Bear creek and on over tho mountain to AUanta, on Middle Bolso river. This is really tho only feasible route to open up all that country. Tho wonderful Skeleton creek gold claims aro mostly on Bear creek, and right on this projected road. Wo went over lust October Oc-tober and put In the bridges across Big Smoky and South Boise rlvors, whllo tho waer woa low, and went with wagons to Bor creek. Tho bridge on Big Smoky la within ono and a half mllcB of my quartz claims, and right on placer ground located by a company of us January 1st of this year. As soon aa wo can cross tho Five Points summit with teams and grading grad-ing outfit wo purpose, with Honey's cooperation, co-operation, to finish grading the road up to Bear creek, and then, qff for Atlanta. Big Smoky Is about twenty mllei from Soldier. Wo woro up South Boise mora than .thirty mlloa north of horo with our bridge crew last October. That this wholo eeotlon of country ha a bright future the mont okopUcal hayseed has but little doubt. .Many Others Coming:. If It woro not for foar of Intruding too much on your valuable spaco I could cn- large for many columns tolling of the palmy days In Little Smoky In tho early rS0s, from 1ES3 to 1SS9. when I hunted In theso hills selling game to the miners, when tho Sliver Star. Galore Stormy, Carrlo Leonard, Isabella, Dollarhldo, Climax. Cli-max. IClng of tho West, Tyranls and many other claims worked hundreds of men for soveral Beasons. Tho Carrie Leonard and tho Galore Stormy kept pack-trains running, bringing In supplies and carrying out ore. In thoso days I was content to shoot down the noble deer and elk, peddling la out from lu to 15 cents a pound, nover dreaming of bullion or gold dust, but times are different now. Tho gamo is still to bo found by tho Initiated, but I am older and feel the necessity of laying h' a nest-egg for old ago, so I havo launched out In the mining mi-ning Industry as offering tho most certain cer-tain road to fortune, and mi' twenty-ono yearn of experience, I think, glvea mo tho most dcslrablo clutms in this new field of activity. If any man has a doubt of this, I Invito him to como and seo or send somebody. Ask MaJ. Fred Reld or any other real llvo progrosslvo mining man who has ovor visited this region to Investigate Its mineral resources. J. H. LIGIITFOOT. |
