Show Oden 's Ode By MELINDA NOKER Reporting on last week's successes, Viking power is once again displayed. The varsity baseball team defeated defeat-ed Bountiful last Friday, 4-0. Russ Cannon was the winning pitcher. Our soccer team won over Woods Cross, 1-0. Tim Majen scored the winning goal. THE GIRLS' track team defeated Layton and Bonneville last Friday. Then some of the girls ran in Saturday's Sa-turday's Nate Long Invitational Invita-tional Meet and placed. They included Susan Knight, Leslie Simpson, Kellie Richards, JoyLyn Williams, Mickie Rock (broke school record in the mile run), Steph Caputo, Kay Goodrich, and Kathy Lawson. Congratulations girls! THE gymnastics team attended at-tended the regional meet last Saturday and returned home with a second place trophy. They did an outstanding job and all of the varsity team qualified for the state tournament tour-nament on May 11 and 12. Also the Viking water polo team completed their successful suc-cessful season by placing fourth in the state. Congratulations Congra-tulations to Coach Jackson and all team members for a job well done! THE UTAH State Band Festival in Logan was held last Friday. Our excellent Viking band placed second, and we're proud of their hard work and contributions this year. Also this past weekend, the Model United Nations assembly assem-bly was held at the U of U. Bruce Robinson and Keith Gold of the Iraq delegation placed first in political and security council. Congratulations Congratula-tions to all Viking members. THE CRITICAL Issues Conference was held last Thursday and was a huge success. Special thanks to Marcia Christiansen for her hard work in preparation for this special day. Coming up this week we have an Academic Awards Banquet this evening at 6:30 p.m., held at the Chuck-A-Rama Restaurant. Then on Wednesday, May 9, the Athletic Awards Banquet will be held at 7 p.m. THE BOYS' track team will run today against Clearfield on the Viking track at 3 p.m. Our powerful baseball team plays on Friday, May Bonneville Bon-neville at Viewmont; and on Tuesday, May 8, at Clearfield. Both games begin at 4 p.m. Friday will also host a soccer game at Judge at 4: 15 p.m. For the juniors and sophomores: Final driH team tryouts will be tomorrow, and the primary elections for class officers will be on Friday morning. FOR THE seniors: A score of activities are planned. Special dates to keep open include May 20-24, with baccalaureate, bac-calaureate, senior banquet at the Hilton, senior movie, senior sluff, senior party and, of course, graduation! Best wishes for the Viking band and orchestra. They will be traveling to Tempe, Ariz, this week to perform and have a good time. |
