He indicated in-dicated that it is currently the only 20,000 meter run in the state and it falls just one week before the 26.2 mile Pioneer Marathon in St. George, so it should provide a good final racing tune-up for the runners planning to enter that event. The course starts at Main and Center Streets in North Salt Lake, and heads north from the city park. The runners will pass under the freeway to Pacific Street, where they will turn right. From there the course goes to Overland and will continue north as the runners are directed onto 800 West through Woods Cross. THEY WILL turn left at 5th South and go to 1100 West in West Bountiful. That will lead to Pages Lane and another right turn going throupl ihe . north part of Bountiful to Main Street, then north through Centerville to Parrish Lane. The course goes left to the frontage road and that road will take the participants to Farmington. The finish line will be near the Davis School Employees Credit Union building. Many of the Chamber of Commerce members are pitching in to assist with this project. Current plans call for four aid stations along the route, split timing at intervals inter-vals of one mile, 5, 10 and 15 kilometers, emergency medical assistance, transportation transpor-tation back to the starting point, a "sag" wagon for those unable to finish and amateur radio communications communica-tions to keep track of the runners at various points along the course. THE CHAMBER plans to offer imprinted running, shorts to all finishers and to have drawings for running equipment at the conclusion of the run. There are plans to offer imprinted T-shirts to those interested in purchasing them. One of the highlights of the run should be the "turners." The candy-stripe candy-stripe girls from Lakeview Hospital will be stationed at the turns to keep the leaders and stragglers from going off course. Twenty thousand meters translates to 1243 miles and would require some extensive training, but there should be time to prepare between now-and now-and the end of September for most people. Chamber members invite participation from everywhere in the region, but hope that there is a particularly good showing from the south Davis area. |
