Show OIRECTOe OF PARKS L1SZ1C1I ! Expert Is Enthusiastic After Visit to Southern Utah Wonderland. Acting Director of National Turks Horace. M. Albright passed through Salt Lako Saturday cn routo to his i . headquarters in Washington, D. C. " Mr. Albright had devoted the last few days of his inspection tour to the scenic possibilities of southern Utah) and particularly to Ziou canyon. For eight years Ziou canyon has been included in-cluded in a reserve known as the Mu-kuntuweap Mu-kuntuweap National monument, but it was not until the state had provided for an automobile highway to connect the southern border of tho monument with the Arrowhead trail that congress, con-gress, following Utah's action, provided provid-ed for a first-class highway within the reservation. Then came the granting K of a AVylie Way concession and the establishing es-tablishing of automobile service. ""You may state that Utah has given one of the surprises of my career." said Mr. Albright. "I had heard stories regarding the scenic wonderland wonder-land near her southern border, but I was little prepared to meet with the practically unnumbered attractions i which that section of the state offers. 'Xow, they toll me that 1 have seeu less than a third of Zion's wouders. Well, admitting that to be a fact, I will proclaim that T have personally seen enough within the borders of Zion canyon to guarantee for Utah a place among the wonder-possessing states of -i- the Union. When I have checked ou the other two-thirds of Zion's grandeur gran-deur 1 am afraid that I shall be lacking lack-ing in means of expression to do the subject justice. ''Knowing the deep interest taken by Director Stephen (J. Mather in any new national playground developments, I yesterday wired him an unofficial re- .t port of what 1 had found in Zion canyon, can-yon, and I am seriously inclined to believe that this report will send him on a personal trip to Zion for his own information. "Tho national park service of the department of the interior has taken a place of vast importance in the traffic end as well as the development ' of our country. We are completing a chain of national scenic attractions, and Utah will have the distinction of adding the latest one to this list of natural wonders. If the state does its full duty in keeping up the means of approach ap-proach there is no question regarding the result. I am particularly pleased to learn from Governor Bamberger that this road work will be done and the coming winter will see not only a first-class maintenance of the highways already const meted, but some new cou-run cou-run urn in your 'Hixio' country. "Salt Lake City is specially fortunate for-tunate in the opening of this new, vet ages old, wonderland, for it places her in the position of a dual gateway to both Zion and the Yellowstone." |
