Show No "U" Turns . . Traffic Light Mow 8n Operation Much has been said through the columns of the Roosevelt standard about the need of a traffic light on Main and La-' La-' goon streets and manv citizens cit-izens & organizations in town have gone to bat for a light, which Wednesday began ooer- atin"- , With the coming of the light comes a challenge to operators of vehicles, along with a promise pro-mise of a safer corner on a busy street. There are a few things that , are musts, as set forth by the Roosevelt city council, along with the traffic department of the Utah Highway High-way Department. On Jan. 1, 1953, an ordinance ordi-nance was published and went into effect making it unlawful," unlaw-ful," as well as unsafe, for a driver of a vehicle to' make a "U" turn on the Main-Lagoon street intersection. . . This ordinance or-dinance was not enforced until un-til the "semophore" light was hung,, which is accompanied by a "No 'U' Turn" sign. Mayor J. B. McLea and the police department have an nounced they will be very lenient with those who "forget" "for-get" the first time warning tickets will be issued But if you're caught a second lime well, ycu have no promise, pro-mise, except the ordinance will be enforced . . . Incident-ly, Incident-ly, there'll be no right turns on a red light. The new traffic light is a welcome wel-come asset to Roosevelt. It not only makes walking less hazardous, haz-ardous, but it gives rightful, indication in-dication that Roosevelt is growing grow-ing up. |
