J Instructions and suggestions for greater efficiency in handling business of the railroads is contained In the latest bulletin of the Railroad's War Board, the organization directing the affairs of American railroads during the emergency, a copy of which has been received by the traffic department of tho O. L. & I. railroad. An arrangement for the common use of terminals and facilities is suggested in the bulletin. This will greatlv expedite ex-pedite the handling of freight, saving time, labor and money, it adds. It also urSes the avoidance of unreasonablv circuitous routes for transportation of anything but cautions against the overloading of direct route and resulting result-ing congestion it advocates the use of electric interurban systems of railroad rail-road wherever possible in short hauls to save coal for use on tho main arteries arter-ies and long direct hauls. The increase in-crease of loads per car of bulk grain is urged as Is also a rigid check and enforcement of demurrage rules and regulations. |
