Show DROP LETTERS FROM OUT OF TOWN ARE THE CERTS Enterprising persons and individuals individu-als who seek to evade the increased postage regulations by expressing letters let-ters or packages to a given point to be placed in the postoffice for distribution distribu-tion are due to have bad luck. ! Special instructions were received ; ! by Postmaster W. w. Browning this , j morning from the postoffice depart- j i ment at Washington requiring that j such letters or packages must be paid for at the rate of 3 cents an ounce. I ! Mails of that character will not be -classified as "drop" letters, but will be listed at the same rate of postage as if j delivered at the .home office of the ' persons or firms. . It Is explained, as an example, that I in the event a Salt Lake City firm, de- I siring to practice a degree of thrift at l the expense of the government and ) having a large number of letters for j delivery in Ogden, brought tho letters j here and dropped them Into the office for city delivery at the rate of 2 cents, the rate on drop letters, such firm 8 would have delivery delayed until pay- " ment of the additional one cent is received. The 2-cent rate only applies to de- n livery of letters to patrons receiving u their mail at the home office of the sending firms. rrv ? |
