Show CHIEF DF POLICE HAS BEEN GIVEN HIGH RECOIITI. Mayor Abbot R. Heywood has re-1 ceived a program and' notes upon tho twenty-fourth annual convention of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, which closed last week in Washington, D. C. Police Chief Thomas E. Browning of Ogden was among those attending. The Ogden police chief took a prominent prom-inent part in the proceedings. In addition ad-dition to being a member of the legislative leg-islative committee', he was programed for a set address and introduced the motion for the appointment of a committee com-mittee to receive Newton D. Baker, secretary of war. who made the principal prin-cipal address of the second day's session. ses-sion. Chief Browning was named chairman of the reception committee. The twenty-fourth annual convention conven-tion originally was scheduled to have met In Kansas City last June. Because Be-cause of Avar conditions, the convention conven-tion was abandoned until 'the federal department of justice asked that the convention be reconsidered and held in Washington. This was done that department de-partment of justico officials and the police chiefs, representing all the principal cities of tho United States, might come to a more effective cooperation co-operation in handling situations due to war running down spies, slackers and other undesirables. Chief Browning will return home within the next two weeks. It is probable prob-able he will arrive immediately before the holidays. nn |
