Show oo WILLIAM HUES ON TRIAL 1 GRAND LARCENY The trial of William Mathes, colored, color-ed, charged with grand larceny, was commenced today in Judge Agee's division div-ision of the district court. Mathes Is charged with the theft of a gold watch valued at over $100 from Charles Barton, Bar-ton, cashier of th'e Ogden Savings bank. The theft is alleged to have been committed on the night of Septembor 1 when the Barton home on Twenty-fifth Twenty-fifth street was entered an dransack-ed. dransack-ed. Mr. Barton was the first witness called this afternoon and testified to having the watch stolen and to the condition of the house after it had been visited by the burglar. A jury Is hearing the case. Mathes was arrested with Bertha Anderson and Earnest Dillard and suspected sus-pected of having a hand in several local house robberies. |
