Show Cerebral Palsy drive underway Plans are underway for the second annual United Cerebral Palsy fund drive in Cedar City, according to Mrs. Sheila K. Nielson, campaign coordinator. The house to house drive will take place March 17-24 under the direction of Mrs. Nielson, Mrs. Delayne Mifflin, Mrs. Judy Hickman, Hick-man, Mrs. Diane Phillips and Mrs. Virginia Higbee, fund raising committee members. The money collected in the Cerebral Palsy drive will be used for research, to run Camp Kostompulos (a camp for handicapped han-dicapped youngsters in Utah) and to send hanicapped children from the Five County area to the Special Olympics. Cerebral Palsy, a crippling condition caused by damage to the motor control areas of the brain, is the number one crippler of newborn babies. The conditions con-ditions means a loss or im-parment im-parment of control over voluntary volun-tary muscles such as those in the arms, legs, tongue, speech mechanism or eyes. Ap-proximateley Ap-proximateley one third of all Cerebral Palsy victims are totally free of defects in intelligence in-telligence due to brain damage. Cerebral Palsy is not a disease, heriditory or contagious. You do not have to be a child to get it. It can happen to anyone. I |
