Weight, will be finishing its touring schedule for the school year during the week of March 1 with appearances in St. George and Parowan. Coming out of a long tradition of excellent choral singing at the University, the University Choir is highly regarded and much sought after in Utah. Besides many local appearances, the choir has received international acclaim through two concert tours of Europe and through its commercial recordings with the Utah Symphony Orchestra. The choir is presently planning another European tour. The choir has also made several very successful tours of California where it was proclaimed as ".highly flexible, with awesome tonal coloring and shading, and a dynamic spread from delicate nuance to dramatic climax." Dr. Weight has been director of the choir since its beginning in 1962 and has a long and successful career in choral conducting. He received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in sacred music from the University of Southern California in 1961 as the result of a Danforth Teachers Grant awarded him in 1957. The appearance of the University Choir in Parowan promises to be one of the musical highlights of the season. The Deseret News, Salt Lake City, has reviewed the choir as "choral singing in the a cappella style at its best." |
