Redmen have placed eight in state finals to be held this week in Salt . Lake City. Redmen pin down Region 11 Crown; take 8 members to State 126; Scott Slcak at 155 and Alan Moss at 167. ' . Kendall Parry, a sophomore, could be tough at 112; he has done well this season and one of the comers on the squad is Dallin Redington at 119. He posted a couple of victories against 3A schools last week. A question remains at 138 as to who will represent the Redmen. Ken Bentley has been wrestling at that slot, but has been injured. In last week's action Jay Lynn Esplin moved up a weight to 138. Regardless the Redmen will be represented at that weight. Mike Adams in the unlimited classification . rounds out the squad that will enter the state meet this week. Following is a run down, by wieghts of the Cedar Dixie match with the Cedar participant listed first. 98 - Soreson of Dixie won by forfeit. 105 - Kim Christensen pinned Synder in one minute eight seconds. 112 - Kendall Parry defeated Rampton, 4-0. 119 - Dallin Redington pinned Capel. 126 - Kary Laird defeated Bracken, 15-0. 132 - David Ramsey defeated by Bunday, 18-0. 138 - Jay Lynn Esplin pinned Cox with one second remaining in the match. 145 - Dave Callison defeated by Gubler, 12-5. 155 - Scott Slack defeated Hughes 10-0. 167 - Alan Moss ' defeated Hughes 8-3. 185 - Clarence Poulson and Huston tied, 11-11. Unlimited, ' Mike Adams defeated Callihan, 2-1. Cedar High School Redmen wrestling team has plucked off , the Region 11 crown and this week end will travel to Salt Lake City to the enter the state 3A state finals slated for the University of Utah Special Events Center Friday and Saturday. Coach Jack Bishop and his Redmen defeated the Dixie Flyers Friday night 43-15 to wrap up the Region 11 title. The two schools have met on three occasions oc-casions and the Redmen have come out the vicotrs in all three meetings. As a result of that action eight members of the Redmen squad have won the right to advance to the state finals. Seven of the Redmen had assured spots in the state meet prior to last Thursday action. Only one spot was up for grabs, ' that in the heavyweight division where Mike Adams of the Redmen and Callihan of Dixie had split. . In the very close match Adams won out in a 2-1 victory with the y only points scored being escapes for each and the difference a penalty against Callihan of Dixie for stalling. The win gave Adams a state tournament berth. The state tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27 and 28 in the Special Events Center on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City. Sessions are scheduled at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. each day. Pre-tournament favorites in the 3A division are the Uintah Utes of Vernal with Bingham and ' Pleasant Grove as the top contenders. con-tenders. , For Coach Bishop and his Red-men Red-men this is their first year of competition in the 3A ranks. With an eight man team entering in the tournament Coach Bishop hopes that they will make a good showing. "I beleive that we can be among the top five or six in the state this year," he indicated. The Redmen are looking to at least four of the eight to finish high in their individual weight classifications. Expected to do well are Kim Christensen at 105; Kary Laird at |
