Seven winners in hoop contest Seven young 4-H'ers from Iron County participated in the Five County Area playoffs in Cedar City on Saturday, February 21. Darla Hunt of Beryl won the 10 year old girls catagory and Annette Hunt also of Beryl won the 13 year old girls catagory. They are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hunt. These girls will go to Utah State University in Logan Sautrday to compete in the State wide tournament. Others who represented Iron County in the area tournament after winning in county competition com-petition were: Wade Orton, 9 year old boys, son of Mr., and Mrs. Wally Orton of Cedar City; Charles Embley, 10 year old bbsy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Embly of Cedar City; Corry Nielsen, 11 year old boys, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ly;nn Nielson of Cedar City and Cris Stephenson, 13 year old boys, son of June Stephenson of Cedar City. Sixty-five youth from Iron County participated in Iron County 4-H One-On-One Basketball Program. They have been meeting each Saturday through January and February. In addition to the basketball competition they have learned about nutrition, first aid, skills and conditioning, and sportsmanship. sport-smanship. Lynn Esplin, Iron County Extension Agent with Utah State University was in charge of the program. He was assisted by Scott Turner, Tom Cardon, and Wally Orton who coached the 9 year olds, Kim Jones who coached the 10 year ' olds, Clinton Hunt who coached the 11 year olds, and Craig Laub who coached the group, from Beryl. |
