Show Coleman Co. Earnings Record sales and earnings for The Coleman Company, Inc. in the first quarter of 1978 and for any interim period in the company's history were reported today by Sheldon Coleman, chairman. Net sales for the period ending March 31, 1978 were $71,396,000 compared to $70,440,000 in 1977, up 1 percent. Net income was $5,220,000 or 71 cents per share compared com-pared to $5,102,000 or 70 cents per share, up 2 percent. per-cent. Coleman said, "Our achievements in the first quarter are particularly pleasing and significant. We had an outstanding performance per-formance in last year's first quarter with which we had to compete. The heavy storms this winter were more disruptive to us than the severe cold of 1977. Our customers, while optimistic, have been very inventory-conscieous inventory-conscieous this year compared com-pared to a lack of such caution early last year." Lawrence M. Jones, president, commented, "All Coleman divisions are doing quite well. Hobie Cat sailboats, O'Brien water skis, Coleman camping trailers and the International In-ternational Division turned in outstanding results. The Outing Products Division is showing better than expected ex-pected results as is the Special Products' home heating and air conditioning products. The manufactured housing industry is reporting sharp and increasing gains. Our new heat pump appears to be receiving an excellent reception and reputation in Dotn manutactured and site-built site-built housing circles. |
