Show Carter Bros, get SUSC bid A $5,645,600 work program for the 1978-79 fiscal year has been approved by the Southern Utah State College Institutional Council. The approved work program represents an increase of $564,400 over the 1977-78 work program. Included in . the approved program are five percent increases in current expense, ex-pense, equipment, travel, and hourly wage categories. Faculty members-as a group- will receive salary increases of 8.3 percent. Classified staff will receive a 10.3 percent salary boost, and non-classified-non-staff will receive a 9.3 percent increase in salary under the work program. The anticipated fuel and power bill for the year is $385,000, up by $26,000 over the current fiscal year, according to information prepared by Paul R. Sout-wick, Sout-wick, vice president of financial affairs. Council members also accepted the low bid of $1,451,919.87 for construction of a Business Building. The bid was submitted by Carter Enterprises, Cedar City. Supplemental appropriations ap-propriations or other funding fun-ding totaling $348,350 will be necessary to furnish and equip ($158,350) the building and to complete the solar energy portion (190,000) of the project. When completed, the building will be the first completely solar heated building in the Utah System of Higher Education. The building will be located just south of the college's Ad ministration Building and west of the SUSC Library on the old college football field. The council also heard a report on spring quarter enrollment figures. The report indicated the normal spring quarter attrition rate. The total "head count" for the quarter is 1,587, down 44 students from spring quarter one year ago, according ac-cording to Sterling R. Church, Dean of Students. In other business at the April meeting, the council: -witnessed swearing in ceremonies for Jeff Duncan as a member of the council. Duncan is the newly elected SUSC student body president. -approved assignment changes which make Jack Bishop head football coach, replacing Tom Kingsford, who had served as head coach for 11 years. Kingsford will be reassigned as golf coach and will continue con-tinue teaching duties. An instructor in health education and assistant football coach will be hired to replace Stephen K. Harmon, who is leaving the institution. -selected Michael W. Kapcsos, Wrentham, Alberta, Canada, as recipient of the Institutional Council Scholarship, the most prestigious scholarship presented by SUSC. -reviewed plans for 1978 commencement activities. Baccalaureate services will be held June 1, and commencement com-mencement exercises are scheduled for 9 a.m. June 2, on the upper campus quadrangle. |
