Show Expend fundsforambulance 4- The time-has come for the county to spend some money. Seldom do we say that, and rightly so, but the public welfare and cost versus benefit dictates it this time. The commissioners should expend the needed funds to purchase an ambulance unit for the Iron County Ambulance Service. Ser-vice. Agreed, the unfortunate accident ac-cident over the New Year's holiday just didn't fit into the plans ( outlined for future ambulance service. When the just recently purchased pur-chased used van ambulance rolled off the slick highway this winter, the back-up abmulance, an effective ef-fective transfering system to hopsitals outside the county, and carefully formulated plans for ambulance service were wrecked, too.But no amount of wishing can take us back before that accident occurred. The hospital-based ambulance services needs a second unit, and needs it as soon as possible. Word from the hospital staff and ambulance technicians has it that the present unit being used, graciously offered by Brian Head Town, is a repairman's dream. It is not a reliable unit. Combined with a modular unit that is building a track record of expensive breakdowns break-downs the need becomes more apparent. The director of nursing at VVMC told the commissioners the reputation of the service will suffer if adequate equipment is not offered of-fered the public. We agree. There also exists the possibility of using a VVMC-based ambulance as a revenue building transfer unit, to be used by several area hospitals as the need arises. The transfer record from the local hospital seems to indicate this is a real opportunity and would be welcomed by neighboring counties. coun-ties. Thanks should be given the commission for upgrading the ambulance system in the county, including their recent expenditures ex-penditures in the western end of the county as they donated to the Enterprise unit. But an unfortunate un-fortunate turn of events dictates further upgrading is needed. |
