Show March of Dimes Walk-a-thon Birth Defects Foundation . T7 rr -"j Anyone on: for an early morning ride couldn't miss the enthusiastic group of March of Dimes walkers that ventured up Cedar City's Main Street and west to the KSUB transmitter Saturday. The group, 310 strong, not only filled their obligation of the 17 mile hike, but solicited pledges from citizens in Iron County to contribute to the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. Because of the support of many businesses in the area, "we feel this was a huge success," Jeanette Stoker, Iron County Walkathon Chairman said. Mrs. Stoker and KSUB radio, a sponsor of the event, extended their thanks, not only to the walkers and those who pledged, but to the "fine stores and merchants who provided the lunch and prizes for the walkers," Mrs. Stoker said. Assisting with the lunch were: Safeway, Seven Up Bottling, Ron and Cris Bakery, Albertsons, Lin's Thriftway, and Keith's Westside. At the conclusion of the walk free drinks were provided by Arctic Circle. Others who assisted to make the walk not only successful, but safe, were the Southern Utah Sanitiation, the Cedar City Police Department, the Highway Patrol, the Iron patrol, and others who willingly gave us their day to support this fine cause. All pledges are to be collected and turned in by May 5 and at this time a drawing will be held and many fine prizes will be given from businesses in Cedar City, Mrs. Stoker concluded. |
