Show Oh Dear. . .What ever Happened to All that Lovely Snow by Mary Gae Evans I know, I know, I said I wasn't going to complain no matter how hot it got, when it was 5 below in December, and I'm not. I mean really. Who could help but enjoy these nice warm, well ok, very warm days. Just because my makeup all runs off and my hair is wet and stringy all the time. That doesn't mean I'm not enjoying en-joying it. And just because my fingers are worn to the bone from moving the lawn sprinkler, and just because the lawn is still yellow, that still doesn't mean I'm not enjoying the warm sunshine. Why, just yesterday, I asked my children if they would like to join me outside to mow the lovely yellow lawns and maybe pull some of the tall green weeds, and it wasn't 10 minutes until I is enjoying this glorious sunshine, .'it sems the whole town of Parowan is mixed up, instead of sitting out in the sunshine around noon when it is at its best, they all wait to go outside in the evening. You can ring any phone in town between the t hours of seven and ten p.m. ' and not get one answer. If ' you want to talk to them you can find them in a lawn chair in the back yard. Even the Barbecues are cool the last two weeks. People are eating cold cuts instead of steak and mar-'shmallows mar-'shmallows straight from the bag instead of roasted to avoid the risk of heating up the night air. It's customary to see little kids wading in the ditch on Main Street but today I saw a whole family of tourists sitting on the bank of the gutter' with their feet in the noticed they were really enjoying the sunshine sitting in the lawn chairs directly under the lawn sprinklers. Things seem to have slowed down a bit for some reason. The joggers and bike riders who filled the streets in early spring have thinned out a little. Once in a while you can see a straggler wavering slowly down the road with a red face a a wet sweat band, (a necessary accessory if one wishes v to see where one is going). It's a funny thing, but in spite of how much everyone water and I know two of them were at least 80 years old. Another thing that's mighty fishy, Cedar got a nice 30 minute rain shower Monday morning and Parowan didn't get any. And, everyone knows Parowan is supposed to be less windy, more snowy, cooler and have more rain when needed. But as I said, I'm not going to complain, I'm really enjoying this lovely warm day, and when seven o'clock comes tonight, I'm going to go outside and bask in it. |
