Show Parowan Lions Install Officers The Parowan Lions Club held their installation ceremony at Minnie's Mansion Restaurant at Brian Head on July 11. The new officers for the 1979-80 year are: Will Hillis, president; Ted Burton, 1st vice president; Earl Bunn, 2nd vice president; John Louvric, 3rd vice president; Norman Day, secretary; Frank Slack, treasurer; Dee White, Tail Twister; and Wimmer Mortensen, Lion tamer. The new Board of Directors are: Doug Fowler, Osmer Nielsen, Frank Adams, Frank Decker and Ken Joseph. John McGerry of the Escalante Valley officiated at the ceremony. He traced the club's history and commented on its many accomplishments. Some of these are: the Lions Park in Parowan Canyon; the Christmas lighting project; a successful house numbering num-bering campaign; the construction of the straightaway at the race track; the installation of the pipe rail at the race track; sponsoring bantam basketball for five years; sponsoring Little League for eight years; sponsoring a float at the fair for 11 years and sponsoring many cancer, glaucoma and polio clinics and the blood mobile. The group is also responsible for the installation in-stallation of a flag pole at the race track and has sponsored spon-sored Boys and Girls State for ten years. They have awarded three scholarships to students at Southern Utah State College. They have also held two successful quarter horse shows, held six raffles in behalf of the sick and needy, conducted a city wide seat belt campaign, cam-paign, and installed the flag brackets on main street lights. After completing the park near the swimming pool, the club installed sprinklers and 22 trees. They constructed a pavilion at the park and installed rest rooms and donated hard wood tables. Work on the park is continuing con-tinuing with additional grass being planted. Horse shoe pits, golf putting greens, volley ball courts and playground equipment are curently being installed and constructed. The 26 Lions in attendance formed committees and made plans for the coming year's activities. Outgoing president Frank Adams was commended for his successful suc-cessful term. |
