Data are punched into the terminal which are code recorded on tape and then relayed directly into the computer via telephone. The computer com-puter processes the data and relays them back to the terminal via phone. Iron District has a high speed printer which then accepts processed data and provides a printout of a financial report, etc. Each month a financial report is presented to the Iron Board for scrutiny by the members. Iron District is in the "black" financially and next year's budget has an undistributed reserve of $90,608.00. . . The Iron County School District!, along with other school districts, cities and counties over 2500 population, is audited each year as prescribed in Section 51-2-1 of Utah law. The Iron School District is not only in compliance with this law, but is in complete agreement with the law. The audit must be an external one, or one conducted by someone outside the school organization. Currently, the audit for Iron District is conducted con-ducted by Grimshaw, Anderson and Company. Audited will be all district accounts, all individual school in-. in-. ternal accounts, plus teacher roll books which account for student attendance. at-tendance. In addition to a prescribed external audit, the district is subject to audit by the State Board of Education, the office of legislative auditors office, and by federal auditors. During the 1978-79 school year, Iron Schools were audited extensively by the State Board of Education, as were other school districts. The federal government govern-ment usually audits specific federal programs such as school lunch, Title I programs for the disadvantaged, and PL 874. Even though a lot of time is con--sli'med in assisting auditors in locating materials, etc. public funds should be carefully accounted for and reports made available to the public. Audit reports for Iron District are submitted to the State Auditor, to the State Board of Education, and to the Iron School Board. They are also available for public inspection. Fiscal accounts for Iron Schools are handled by Mr. Kent Peterson, an accounting graduate from Southern Utah State College, by Karla Hulet, his assistant, and by secretaries.
