The commission has contacted the Union Pacific Railroad for a water right of way to improve drainage. Commission Chairman Grant Seaman said that he has contacted the railroad recently and sent a letter last spring to gain the right of way. He said that he was told that the matter had been referred to the New York Office from Omaha, Neb. . office. County Attorney James Shumate said that he would contact the railroad and could possibly hasten their decision. Alternative plans in case the right of way is not given were discussed. The commission com-mission explained that it would be expensive for the county to improve the county road Williams Lane and to later receive the water right of way and have to change their improvements. im-provements. The group had discussed with commissioners last spring the possibility of creating a special improvement im-provement district to upgrade their drainage and the other roads in the area. The group was disappointed in the estimated $7,800 engineering costs of the plans which the engineer hired by the county had budgeted in the plan. They said that another local engineer had said that the work could be done for $1,200. The commissioners explained ex-plained that the work would have to meet county specifications but agreed to have several engineers look at the proposed improvements im-provements before their next meeting. |
