Agribusiness In Iron County Agribusiness is still one of the largest industries in Iron County even though the number of farms continues to decrease. The size of farms is increasing each year. The value of farm products sold remains re-mains rather constant, at just under un-der five million dollars. The amount or percentage of money spent on farm supplies and equipment continues con-tinues to increase each year and represents a large portion of the agribusiness income. Over 500 thousand acres of privately pri-vately owned farm land is used for grazing purposes. Livestock and livestock products constitute the largest portion of farm and ranch sales. Alfalfa, barley, potatoes and field corn constitute the major field crops. Most of the potatoes and much of the alfalfa and barley are exported as cash crops. Livestock and livestock product sales amount to almost 2.7 million dollars, compared com-pared to about '2.3 million dollars in crop sales. Iron County has approximately 23 percent of the potentially arable land in the State of Utah, with water wa-ter the limiting resource. Attempts are being made to bring additional water into the county for agriculture, agricul-ture, industry and cullinary use.
