Show College Newspapers Donated to Library Fourteen issues of Volume XV of "The Student" newspaper news-paper published between September Sep-tember 22 and February 10, 1926-27, were given the library of the College of Southern Utah recently for inclusion in its collection of college publications. publi-cations. The donor is Mrs. Alva (Zella B.) Matheson who worked on the staff of the newspaper that year. Mrs. Matheson also presented the library with two issues of "The . Student," November, 1915, and March, 1916, this latter being a combination news journal and literary magazine. These are the first issues of "The Student" as a newspaper newspa-per that the library has been given. "The Student" was published monthly as a news-journal news-journal and literary magazine from February, 1910, to as late as April, 1917: quarterly during dur-ing 1918: and, apparently, only sporadically from 1919 to March, 1923, which is the last issue of the 40 on file at the library. The name was given to the yearbook in 1930, but that is the only year on record that the annual was published under un-der the name of "The Student." Stu-dent." When the newspaper adopted adopt-ed the name is not known, but it was probably the first weekly week-ly newspaper to be published by the student body organization, organiza-tion, and it must have been some tima prior to 1926, since volume 15 was published that year. The library would appreciate appre-ciate additional information on this publication and would be pleased to be able to complete com-plete its collection of these publications. Anyone having such information or other issues is-sues of "The Student" as a newspaper, magazine or yearbook year-book is asked to contact Inez S. Cooper at the library on the campus of the College of Southern Utah or call 5S3-9481, 5S3-9481, Extension 73. |
