Show I By Jill Carter I CHS Students Attend Speech Meet ! Wednesday, March 29, 37 dramatists traveled to St. George for the annual Region 05 Speech and Drama Meet. Readier Marilyn Capell and and student teacher Garth Jones accompanied the group to Dixie College. The students competed in six divisions. One division allowed al-lowed them to display their story-telling talents. They drew one adult's, one child- themselves, with the help of drama teachor, Miss Capell. The final event of the day was the presentation of the one-act plays. Cedar High's choice was Strode and Horn-thal's Horn-thal's "The Dance Below." with Terrie Gilger, Mike Boss, and Larry Brough. The story takes place in Hell. The play is set to the theme, "the seeds of our punishment are sown at 1 the time of our sin." In other. CHS was a recipient of a letter let-ter from Helen Keller last week. She graciously thanked students for correspondence sent to her. Douglas Bonzo has an interesting and factual bulletin bul-letin board about the blind along with Miss Keller's letter let-ter in his room. i Thursday, March 23, the bys', girls' and a cappella choruses combined to sing a few of the favorites of Easter. To go along with the singing, Dennis Rowley read appropriate appro-priate Bible quotations.. Tuesday,, March 21, the Og-den Og-den a cappella choir under the direction of Cedar High's own former chorus teacher, Ronald Wooden, presented an entertaining enter-taining assembly featuring religious re-ligious songs, folk songs, and novelty numbers. During the program the CHS a cappella joined them to sing "Choose Something Like a Star." Later on in April the CHS choir will pay a return visit to Ogden High and present a program for them. ren's and one teenager's story from a prepared list to tell. Pantomine and reading were combined in a relatively new division called mono-act. Contestants Con-testants in this field used costume cos-tume as well as furniture props. They performed a play cutting entirely by themselves reacting to the other characters charact-ers as if they were present. Most of the selections performed per-formed were cut by the stu- woras men create tneir own hell. An impressionistic setting set-ting against a blue eye helped create the bleak, void mood of purgatory. ' Applicants must have a grade point average of at least B, verified by their teachers' signatures. sig-natures. Their doctor's signature signa-ture saying they are in good health and parental consent will also be required. Con-1 testants do two cheers by themselves and one with a group. The student body will judge them according to cheerleading qualities of coordination, coor-dination, enthusiasm, and personality. per-sonality.
