Show College Diamond Crew Takes On Colorado Mines Here This Week ing and hitting could not keep pace with those teams in the warmer climates. Last week the T-Birds and Weber State College met in a double-header and split thej series with the T-Birds pick- ing up the opener and losing the second battle. The two clubs, however, faced similar situations in weather conditions condi-tions and games. The College of Southern Utah Thunderbird baseball team will be back In action this week with a four game series against Colorado School of Mines. The two clubs will meet on the new CSU diamond in double-headers both Friday and Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1 p. m. each day. The Thunderbirds will carry a one win, seven loss and two tied record Into the scries, and they hope to be able to better that mark at the expense ex-pense of the Colorado club. Coach Cleo Petty and his Thunderbirds got into the thick of the baseball action two weeks ago with a trip to Phoenix, Ariz, to play six games in three days. Bill Lamb has poten- tlal at the bat and Steve Judd, in right field, has power to spare as he showed with a homerun blast against Weber. Pitchlngwise, the T-Blrds rate srong this season, paced by freshman Larry Eyre. Eyre, who is from Fallon, Nevada, has won 1 and lost 1, but has pitched three complete frames while compiling a 2.88 ERA. He has also struck out I 30 In 25 Innings. Others who will see mound duty include letterman Reid Kimoto of Honolulu, who has been out with sickness; veteran vet-eran left hander Mike Erling from Henderson, Nevada; transfer Hank Drogemiller from Southern California; Keith Murray, a freshman from Vernal; and Dave Jensen, Jen-sen, a freshman from Cedar City. |
