Show Youth Employment Program Gives Training for Job Opportunities Youth Employment Service, 'which is functioning this year lor the first time in Cedar City under the sponsorship of the "Youth Council, provides training classes to prepare young people lor available work in the area, according to a report this week ty project chairman, Lonnie Ayers. Classes for interested boys on the Junior high school level were .given by Iron County agent Wallace Wal-lace Sjoblom with girls under-.going under-.going a similar training program under the direction of Iron County Coun-ty Home Agent, Miss Geraldine IMoakcs. Classes for boys were divided into five categories as follows: 1. Lawn and garden care Lawn mowing, raking, trimming and proper care of lawns. 2. Hand Tools Proper ujc of all tools around the house and yard. X Vegetable Gardens Plant-ins Plant-ins and caring of gardens. 4. Removal of old Building The safe way to tear down sheds and old buildings that are hazardous. haz-ardous. 5. Weed Control The proper use of weed chemicals and process pro-cess of getting rid of weeds. Additional training programs are being carried out for the JKiris. The service Is In keeping with national and state efforts to stimulate sti-mulate activities for betterment of children and youth, the chairman chair-man pointed out One of the functions of the Youth Council in Cedar City is to carry out a youth employment program. This Service is completely com-pletely separate and apart from the Utah State Department of Employment although this bureau bur-eau has made available office space in their basement for the use of the Youth Employment Service. The center will be open five days a week with a youth interviewer present to take calls and register all young people desiring de-siring work and also those who need services performed. Many calls for yard work for the boys have been received. Calls for fruitplckers were received this week and students will be needed need-ed for this work later In the week. There has been some response re-sponse from women for housework. house-work. The calibre of girls already al-ready performing these duties has been very good. Housewives are encouraged to call the Youth Employment Service for ironing and house cleaning. Also young people desiring employment should call. |
