Show Broncs Find Winning Ways in Dixie Rebels Battle The College of Southern Utah! bounced back from a two-game' losing streak to hand the Dixie! Rebels a 10 to 7 loss in the fourth encounter of the Bronco baseball season. The game was' played Tuesday afternoon on the Cedar C'ity diamond. It was the first meeting of the two teams this season. Gary Robinson was on the mound for Coach Cleo Petty and he held the RebeJs to nine hits while his team mates were stacking stack-ing up 14 hits. Scoring was split with the Broncos taking in the initiative in-itiative in the opening innings and Dixie putting n a comeback in the final Innings of play. The Broncos took a 9 to 0 lead in the first three cantos, with seven of the nine coming in the I third Inning. In that frame the Broncos connected for six of their 11 hits and collected seven runs. Adding to the drive was two fielding errors by the Rebels. Re-bels. The Inning started out with an error on Dixie's starting pitcher, Miles, to put Bob Erickson on first. Gene Secrist stepped to the plate next and belted out a triple tri-ple to score the first run; and not until Erickson had returned to the plate to score the finaj two runs with a triple of his own. did Dixie finally settle down to make the third out. Dixie scored In the top of the fourth, added two more In the eighth and rallied with three runs on four hits and a base on balls In the top of the ninth to threaten. Kim Jones, first baseman for the Broncos, hit the only other extra ex-tra base hit In the game, a two bagger In the opening Inning to score two runs. Comnletlng CSU's battery was Scott Hirschl. Friday afternoon at 2 on the local field the Broncos will meet the Badgers of Snow College In a game at Enhralm last week the Bronco suffered a 7 to 1 loss. The Snow Badgers will po on to St. Georgo to mt the Rebels Re-bels Saturday afternoon. |
