Show LETTER TO THE EDITOR Dear Townspeople: We are natives of Cedar City and have been receiving our city news through the Iron County Record, which our parents have been sending us. In recent weeks we have been hearing and reading accounts of the disappcarnce of Arden Heap. Now we learn of his tragic death. We feel moved to write this open letter as an appeal to all who have been saddened by this news, as we have. May we first express to our friends, the parents of the boy. our deepest sympathy. We are all Justifiably stirred to anger and want to avenge this untimely death. Our anger is not Justified, however, if the guilty party is able to stay his execution execu-tion for a period of several years because he was supposedly threatened by the anger of a group of townspeople. After all we pay part of our taxes to support sup-port our prisons. We literally pay for the meals, clothing, and accommodations ac-commodations of the men within those prisons. Our responsibility, then, is to act rationally. To support our law enforcers. Their responsibility responsibili-ty Is to build an airtight case around the guilty party or parties par-ties by providing them with adequate ade-quate police protection at a'.' times and never becoming careless care-less over even the slightest ,'egal technicality. A case often hinges on Just that, not a question of whether the suspect is guilty or not guily. As we have witnessed In our own state, it only takes a competent lawyer to point out such technicality. I-et's do everything we can to help onr law officers and to spare the Heap fam'.'y any more suffering than it has already been brought to endure. Three Faithful Readers and NatiTe Cedaiian |
