Show Cedar Teams Pair Off For Opening Of Basketball League Opening round of the Cedar City basketball league, under the supervision of the Junior Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, Tom Brown, chairman, got under way Tuesday Tues-day night with eight teams scheduled to participate. Games will be played each Tuesday and Thursday evening at the College of Southern Utah Memorial Fieldhouse, with three games played each night. Opening Open-ing game is set fur 7:40. In the first g.ime of the league schedule the Columbia Iron Mine team scored a 35 to 27 victory over Webster Coal, a new-comer to the league this year. The Junior Chamber of Commerce Com-merce drew a bye when Enterprise Enter-prise failed to show up. In the n)ght-cap, Parowan, paced by Jack Stevens, downed Milt's. The other two participating teams are the National Guard and Dennett's Plumbing. The schedule is set up so that each team meets twice and it will caiTy through March 15. A four team turnament, pitting the top four of the league, will be played March 17 through 22, Brown indicated. indi-cated. This evening, Thursday, the National Guard meets Dennett's Webster Coal plays Enterprise and Columbia and Parowan meet In the final game. Tuesday, Jan. 18 pits the Jaycees against Dennett's, Den-nett's, Milt's against the National Nation-al Guard and Webster against Parowan. |
