Show VISION (These articles are submitted weekly by your Optometrists of Southern Utah, in cooperation with your local newspaper, in order to better acquaint you with the function and problems of vision). ABOUT TIME AND GLASSES A thorough visual examination takes at least 45 minutes. min-utes. Anything less may mean that important tests have been omitted. A good examiner takes a case history in which he records essential information about the symptoms you have observed, your general health and the specific purpose pur-pose for which you may need visual correction. Case histories his-tories brought up to date at each examination provide your family optometrist with important information to guide him in safeguarding your vision now and for the future. There should be a thorough examination for ocular pathology disease. About one vision patient out of 14 needs to be referred to a physician for treatment of such ocular disease A thorough examination and proper prescription pre-scription take into account the interrelationship of the two eyes. A corrective lens before one eye affects not only that eye, but the other as well. A proper balance must be achieved for efficient, easy, comfortable seeing. Correction, especially for children, often requires visual vis-ual training, or othoptics. Lenses alone may be inadequate. A thorough examiner considers not only the immediate immed-iate complaint, but the ultimate welfare of the patient. Future Fu-ture complications may often be forestalled. 'These are some of the reasons that TIME is an indication indi-cation of the competence and thoroughness of the examiner. Glasses cannot be "fitted" like a pair of shoes or a suit. No two persons are alike, and no two eyes are alike. Variations in prescriptions run into the hundreds of thousands, and only a thorough examination can reveal what prescription is best for you. Each lens is then specially spec-ially ground in accordance with the prescription. A pair of glasses is as incidental to good vision as a fitting for a tooth is to good dental care. It is professional service that counts most. |
