Show Junior College Basketball Race Favors Ricks; Week End Tilts Tell TEAM STANDINGS Weber 2 0 1.000 Ricks 3 1 .750 Snow 3 1 .750 C S U 1 1 .500 Dixie 1 1 .500 Westminster 1 1 .500 Boise 1 3 .250 Carbon 0 4 .000 Within five days after the opening of the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Conference (ICAC) basketball race the eight participating teams had completed complet-ed better than 21 per cent of their schedule and only one team remained on the undefeated list. Boise Junior College and the Ricks Vikings of Rexburg, Idaho played four games in five days, laying off on Sunday, all on the road, and will return this week to their home courts to do some entertaining rather than be entertained. en-tertained. Although Weber is the only undefeated un-defeated team of the I C A C to date, Ricks is setting in the driver's dri-ver's seat as the favorite to retain re-tain its 1951 Conference championship. Weber Wins at Home Weber Wildcats won both of their games on the home court against Carbon Friday and over the highly touted Snow Badgers Saturday. However, Ricks, completing com-pleting a strenuous four game series on the road, returns with an Impressive three win and one loss record. The single loss in the loop was the final game at Eph-raim Eph-raim Tuesday when they were downed by a seoro of 83 to 68. Wins were scored over Dixie Friday, 79 to 77; CSU Saturday, 81 to 75, and Carbon Monday, 61 to 55. Boise did not fare so well on the four game loop trip. They met Dixie, CSU and Snow and were beaten In those three contests. con-tests. Contrary to Rick's final night loss, the Boise Broncos scored their single win In winding wind-ing up the southern Utah Invasion. In-vasion. They downed the Carbon Eagles by a score of 62 to 33. ' Defeated by Wildcats Snow College equals Rick's three win and one loss record i - to date, but has played two of its games on the home court. However, How-ever, they have traveled to Westminster West-minster and Webor. Snow downed down-ed Westminster Friday night by a score of 72 to 56 but lost to the surprisingly strong Weber Wildcats at Ogden Saturday evening eve-ning by a score of 66 to 60. CSU, Dixie, Westminster each ! have won and lost one game. But none of the three teams have moved from their home courts. Weber is in the same situation except that it has won both of its games against Snow and Carbon. Carbon has dropped to the cellar cel-lar position, but fast. And from all Indications they are not apt to move out of that spot very fast. They lost by big margins to Westminster, 76 to 32; to Weber, We-ber, 79 to 49 and to Boise, 62 to 33. They were beaten by Ricks, but it was the best game by far the Eagles have played. Final score was 61 to 55. Home and Home Games Westminster and Weber will play home and home games this week end as will CSU and Dixie. Boise, Ricks, Carbon and Snow are idle the rest of this week. The home and home series for CSU and Dixie will either make or break the two southern most teams of the ICAC most fans will agree, and the same goes for Weber and Westminster. A double win for any of the four teams will put them near the top and back Into the conference con-ference race. A double win for Weber, would doubly strenthen that team's perfect record. A split, win and loss, will move all four teams down the totem pole and into a hole conference wise. If this should happen. Ricks with its 3-1 record would definitely defin-itely be the league's best. A double win for any of the teams would leave them in the race but a double loss on the other hand will mean a big, big drop In any case. Coach Petty and the Broncos of C S U will move to St. George Friday for thit highly important game. Saturday the Rebels and ; Broncos will meet In the CSU Memorial Fieldhouse, with game time set for 8 p. m. Weber and Westminster will meet In Salt Lake City Friday and In Ogden Saturday. Even with the amazing new gadgets that help make driving automatic, It Is necessary to turn when the road does. |
