Show Dr. J. S. Prestwich Named To Head School Board At the regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Iron County School District Wedness-day Wedness-day the board was re-organized with Dr. J. S. Prestwich named as president of the board for the coming year. Dr. Prestwich, who has served on the board for a number of years and who has1 acted as vice president during the past year, will succeed Herman Her-man E. Bayles, Parowan, as head of the board. Leo Larson was elected vice president, to succeed Dr. Prestwich Prest-wich in that position. Other members of the board are Samuel Abbott, Mr. Bayles and Elloyd Marchant, The board opened bids at the meeting for the construction of a new school bus service garage at Cedar City, and awarded the contract to John S. Hamilton, Cedar Ce-dar City contractor, who was the j lowest bidder. Mr. Hamilton's bid was $21,975.00. Three other bids were received as follows: Moroni Perry, Cedar City, $23,740; Witt-Construction Co., Provo, $21,-780; $21,-780; Hales Construction Co., Spanish Spa-nish Fork, $26,600. The board instructed Supt. Ian-thus Ian-thus Wright to write local representatives repre-sentatives to the state legislature, legisla-ture, urging their support in the states aid participation in the school lunch program. The board members also asked that a change in the School Board election elec-tion law to provide for the election elec-tion of one member of the board each year for a five year term, rather than to elect two and three directors every olher biennium. Plans to attend the National School Board Convention in St. Lous, Mo., Feb. 21-26, were discussed, dis-cussed, but no definite plans were made. Some member or members of the local board will attend, but who the representatives representa-tives will be has not been determined. |
